On Monday 17 August, a group of our Senior English and Drama students, along with some of our International students, had the fantastic opportunity to travel to the theatre to attend Auckland Theatre Company’s production of Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
It was an unforgettable experience for everyone involved, and the production was nothing short of phenomenal! From the moment the curtain went up, our students were captivated by the powerful performances and the striking, epic set design—which staff member Mr. Devery noted paid brilliant homage to the iconic Globe Theatre.

Among the many highlights, the crowd-favourite was undoubtedly the character of the Porter, whose sharp comedic timing offered welcome relief in such a dark, intense play. Attendees were also raving about the clever casting choice to have three children portray the Witches, bringing an eerie and compelling dynamic to the stage.
The enthusiasm didn’t end when the curtain fell. The bus ride home was filled with lively discussion, insightful critiques, and glowing reviews.

For Lily, an exchange student from Germany, the impact was immediate:
“The play was so good but VERY SCARY!”
For another student, it marked a brand-new milestone:
“Wow, I’ve never been in an auditorium before!”
Moments like these highlight just how vital and enriching educational excursions outside the classroom are for our ākonga, giving both local and international students shared memories that last well beyond the school gates.
